SOUTHEND-ON-SEA ATTEMPTS THE GUINESS WORLD RECORD FOR THE LONGEST LINE OF BUNTING
As part of the arts festival Village Green – held annually on Chalkwell Park – arts organisation, Metal, are asking schools, community groups and individuals from across the Borough of Southend on Sea to take part in a shared attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous line of bunting.
The current record is 1,504.72m (14 July 2006). We are attempting to create a line that is as long as our world famous, and much loved landmark, Southend Pier – that is exactly 1.3 miles (2158m).
OUR TARGET IS 2158m LONG - 8,991 FLAGS!
The bunting will be exhibited at Village Green festival on Saturday 26th September 2009 in Chalkwell Park. Come along to find your flag (or flags – there is no restriction on number of entries) among the many, as the line stretches around the entire park site.
Once completed and ratified by Guiness World Records, the bunting line will be available into the future for exhibition and use at celebratory events across the Borough.
