Village Green
Village Green is the arts festival that Metal has developed for Southend on Sea, using Chalkwell Park – the park that our building Chalkwell Hall sits in.
As part of Metal’s work building activities and profile for a newly renovated space for art, events and conversation at Chalkwell Hall, we have organised a free and inspiring day of fun, intrigue, talent, participation and a showcase of much of the creative talent of Southend, alongside some international talent from around the UK and overseas.
This year’s festival is on Saturday 26 September – 11am until 10pm – Chalkwell Park. Highlights for this year’s programme will include:-
Billy Bragg’s Big Busk, Camera Obscura, The Blockheads, Man Like Me, Southend Young Creatives, Coexist Side Show Event, Hide & Seek, Artists Marketplace, Urban Games, Matthew Pescod
With plenty of other things going on through out the day all through the park:-
· Stages for performance – music / dance / spoken word and acoustic
performance. Come and see a heady mix of local and international talent perform.
· Workshops – participate in artist-led workshops and games. Create your own work and
explore the works of others
· A marketplace – of arts and crafts / ideas and exchanges. An opportunity to see the
enormous range of local and regional ,creative skills and innovation.
· Urban sports display and participation – skating / BMX / basketball and dance

Hadleigh, Southend and the Old Southendian cricket clubs.
· Artists – commissioned to create surprising interruptions / participatory workshops /
