Age Concern Essex is holding its annual essay and poetry competition for residents aged 60 and over, with all entries stored in the Essex Record Office. The deadline for applications is 1 March 2010.
Encouraging older people to share memories with future generations, Age Concern Essex began holding an annual Essay Competition in the 1950s as it was thought it might be very interesting to get older peoples’ reminiscences on record since once that particular generation disappeared, there would be no-one to ask “What was it like in your day?”. This competition proved so popular that it is still in being today with the added bonus of a Poetry Competition. Each year one copy of every entry is lodged with the Essex Record Office for the benefit of future generations.
