SAXON KING’s treasures – where should they be kept?

An innovative new museum is being planned for the Southend’s seafront to host the Saxon king’s treasures discovered in 2003. The building would also offer a new space for the Beecroft Art Gallery and The Southend Central Museum. The Southend Council hopes to fund the building from an extra government funding.

But Patsy Link (the founder of the Saxon King in Priory Park group) campaigns for the museum to be placed where the relics were originally found – in the Priory Park. Her group has prepared a plan for a Saxon hall and Saxon village and she said these plans could be realised by 2012 as opposed to the more ambitious scale of the seafront museum.

You can view the Saxon King in Priory Park group’s plans TODAY at the Spread Eagle pub from 8.30pm.

What do you think – should the relics stay in the Priory Park or would you like to have a new museum on the cliffs?
