Otaku – Manga Day at Southend Libraries – 16th January 10-4pm – For those of you who just cannot get enough of Manga – this day offers a lot – film, art workshops, sushi, Japanese lanugage courses, Cosplay, Competitions…. Bring all your Manga friends along and persuade the rest to give it a go. There will be a designated ’social area’ where you can meet and chat with like minded enthusiasts, swop design ideas, dress up and have a great day.
The following activities may be elected on the day of the Manga Festival from the staff members in the Manga Social Area (from 10am). Activities are provided on a first come, first serve basis to those with a Manga Day Pass ticket.
10am – 12 noon Art Workshop
11am – Anime Film Screening
1.30pm – 3.30pm Art Workshop

Sit, relax, chat with like-minded Manga lovers.
How to make Sushi – Demonstration
Learn the basics of preparing a delicious dish.
Envelope art – Drawing Competition
Create a mini masterpiece on an old envelope in the manga style, and see if you can win a prize (you may complete your Envelope Art at home and bring it in on Festival Day, or create it in the Library on Festival Day itself. You must provide your own envelope.)
Language Tips
Learn the basics of the fascinating Japanese language.
Cosplay – Dress up competition
Get into spirit and come to the Manga Festival as your favourite character (we recommend you should arrive in costume if possible, but there are very limited changing facilities in the toilets if necessary.)
Manga Quiz
Test your knowledge and join the quiz – you may even win something fantastic.
