24 Jan 3pm – The Philharmonia Orchestra @ The Cliffs

The Philharmonia Orchestr, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy, revisits The Cliffs.
The programme begins with Elgar’s jaunty Cockaigne Overture followed by Sibelius’ ethereal Violin Concerto.  In the second half the orchestra will perform what is perhaps Elgar’s most loved work, his Enigma Variations with its stirring Nimrod theme and its grand pulsating finale, which is a musical self-portrait of the composer.

For the younger fans of classical music, there is a Philharmonia Orchestra Family Music Day at the Palace Theatre on 30 January at 10am, aimed at children between 5-11 and their families. Kevin Hathway will take them on a musical journey through Europe: Spain with Chabrier, France with Berlioz, Mountain King’s castle in Norway and back to the UK with Elgar!
