Explore 5 – Southend Libraries Book Festival kicks off on 3 March with Alexei Sayle.See the full programme below:

3 March 7.30-9.30pm – ALEXEI SAYLE – He’s funny, quirky and launching this year’s festival! We are delighted to welcome him to Southend and know he will offer a memorable evening. Be prepared to experience unrivalled humour and satire from this unique Liverpudlian! Tickets: £9.00 including refereshments.

10 March 2-4pm at Kent Elms Library – GORDON GRIFFIN - WF Howes Ltd is bringing this highly talented narrator to the book festival. This is an invitiation only event for Home Library Service customers and their carers, visually impaired members and volunteers.  Tickets: Free, but do book a place. Refreshments provided.

12 March 2-4pm- ‘HOW TO SPEAK ESSEX- This event is set to mark the rich cultural diversity of Essex and Southend. Martin Farrell from Essex Sound Archive is offering a great talk on local dialects and oral history. Tickets: Free, but need to be booked.

17 March 7.30-9.3pm- ALISON WEIR – This talented author has a vast array of novels and biographies under her belt, featuring the amazing lives of royal women across the ages. Based on meticulous research, her books bring to life the intriguing lives of these women and open up the historical period around them. She is a delightful speaker and truly inspiring. Tickets: £5.00 with refreshments.

24 March 7.30-9.30pm – BONNIE GREER – This Chicago-born writer is a women of our time-passionate about her writing, her heritage, and the fight against racism. At 60, she is as vibrant as ever and a challenge to all those who cling to bigotry and injustice. This is a truly remarkable woman, so book places early for this event. Tickets: £9.00 including refreshments.

27 March 10am-12pm or 2-4pm – OCEAN WHITEHAWKWorkshops for emotional and spiritual wellbeing-Ocean brings to her workshops an understanding of human nature and the daily challenges we face. She seeks to underpin what we do and think with confidence in our own ability to improve our lives and experience greater freedom. Check out her website at http://www.oceanwhitehawk.com/. You can book either workshop or come for the day. Tickets: £7.00 per session with refreshments.

27 March – TAOIST TAI CHI SOCIETY is holding a free workshop 12-1.30 PM over the break between workshops on that day.

31 March 7.30-9.30pm- ELIZABETH CHADWICK and ALISON KING,  – Be prepared to stretch your idea of reality with this amazing talk by these women. ‘History on the Ether’ takes a journey into the past and demonstrates how some individuals have the ability to truly ’see’ events beyond our time. This is a unique opportunity to learn firsthand how the author uses Alison’s remarkable talent to underpin her novels.
