ARTSIDE is on until 23 July. Come to the closing party on Friday 23 July 7-9pm at the Railway Hotel. Jane Sealy is also doing a crochet workshop at BHS that day from 3-4pm where you can add to her Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef.
SUNDAY 18 JULY
From 12pm – BIRGIT DEUBNER
A procession led by the artist moved among all ARTSIDE venues. Beaks were worn by all participants of a silent flock expressing curiosity and interest in town’s locations, people, and primarily the art venues around which the flock of ‘intruders / visitors’ huddled looking in through the windows, and thus drawing attention to these places.
10-6pm – LAURA KEEBLE
An outdoor sculpture outside Starbucks on the Southend High Street.
SATURDAY 17 JULY:
- 2-3pm – BATHSHEBA SPORLE – performance at UTOPIA CAFE, Unit 2, Royals
BATHSHEBA SPORLE will be exploring the culture of violent teens and adults, using her fashion background to build a sculpture of a full body suit which takes the shape of a very powerful violent image that she remembers well from her teen years.
- NATASHA VICARS – live art on the Southend Beach
Vicars displaces a tradition from Brazil and, working from a flower stall on the beach, introduces individual participants to a practice that involves offering flowers into the waves. See the IDEA13 video:
NATASHA CARSBERG Installation on the beach
Natasha Vicars will be arriving to Southend early in the morning when the tide is out – in time for some beach-combing to create a temporary installation.
