This Sunday, The White Bus are showing a 2010 award-winning film The Way.
Synopsis: Tom, an American doctor, travels to France to collect the remains of his adult son, killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while walking ‘The Camino de Santiago’, also known as ‘The Way of Saint James’. Driven by his profound sadness and his desire to understand his lost son, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage. Armed with his son’s guidebook, he begins the 800km trek, and soon discovers he isn’t alone, as he meets other pilgrims from around the world, all broken and looking for greater meaning in their lives.
Multiple Emmy and Golden Globe award winner Martin Sheen (Apocalypse Now, Wall Street), one of America’s most celebrated, colourful and accomplished actors, stars as Tom. He is in commanding form as a stifled man, gradually coaxed out of his torpor, who begins to learn the difference between “the life we live and the life we choose”.
The Way was filmed entirely in Spain and France along the actual ‘Camino de Santiago’. It was directed by Martin Sheen’s son, Emilio Estevez.
