Four new plays at the Clifftown Theatre are directed by young directors from East 15’s MFA Theatre Directing.
Rhinoceros: Natalie Katsou directs a new imagining of Eugène Ionescu’s 1950’s play.
Bérenger is an average man forced to confront the extraordinary, as his world is changed beyond recognition. One by one the inhabitants of his town are turning into rhinoceros – until even those he trusts and loves succumb. Will Bérenger join this new wave, or stand alone with his conviction?
Life Under Water: Samantha Tink directs this piece, by award-winning playwright Richard Greenberg.
In the privileged Hamptons playground, two attractive college girls look for fun and romance, and believe that handsome preppie Kip, himself on the run from a home shared with domineering mother and her narcissistic lover, might well fit the bill. But as romance develops amidst the young, the triangular affair is in contrast to the unflattering vapidity of the older couple. With wit and insight a scathing portrait of a contemporary upper middle-class emerges, one that is bored, self-indulgent and emotionally reckless.
Andronici: A new collaborative piece, directed by Matthew Alto.
A group of idealistic students put on a production of Titus Andronicus, face graduation & life beyond. A Punk Rock movement Opera with music by New Jersey band Titus Andronicus.
Skinhead: A new devised piece, directed by Sean William Dupont.
“Do you remember the good old days
Before the ghost town?
We danced and sang,
And the music played…”
