Southend Pier’s Annual Puppet Festival returns this weekend.
The Festival runs from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th August 2012, 11am-5pm each day. Bring the family, walk or take the train to the end of the pier and make a day of it. Bring a picnic, or eat in the new Cultural Centre Café and let Punch and Judy, marionettes and glove puppets put on a show for both kids and adults who want to re-live their childhood.
The Festival is part of The Big Grin, which is a national celebration of Mr. Punch’s 350th Birthday. Details of nationwide celebrations can be found on www.thebiggrin350.com. This exciting programme of community events and opportunities is presented by PuppetLink and made possible by support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It takes place around the UK during the Spring and Summer. The Big Grin was launched in public on Saturday May 12th with the The Big 350 Birthday Party in Covent Garden Piazza in central London where Punch was first seen by Samuel Pepys.
