Mid-School Holiday, are you running out of things to do with the kids? Here are some ideas of how to keep them busy.
1) TEDDY BEAR PICKNIC: For the little ones, head to Southchurch Hall on Wednesday 15 Aug between 10-3pm for a second annual Tedddy Bear Picnic. Don’t forget to bring their special toy and a picnic and join in the fun in the grounds of Southchurch Hall Gardens. There will be teddy bear stories, craft activities, hunts and prizes.
2) FREE SPORTS: Next weekend, on Sat 18 Aug, Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre are offering free sports afternoon 12-4pm. A wide range of activities can be tried by the whole family under a supervision of qualified instructors: Mini tennis, tennis, judo, rush hockey and basketball. No need to book, just turn up.

Summer Holiday Workshops – all at High House Production Park, Purfleet

Royal Opera House Education in Thurrock is running workshops this summer to create a unique installation which will premiere at the Orsett Show and then be on display in the stables at the High House Production Park. If you have ever wanted to create digital art, learn more about sound or if you would like to get involved in creating a piece of artwork, then come along to one of our workshops.
Creating the Soundscape
Open to everyone aged of 12 and above
No unaccompanied under 14s
Mon-Fri 10.30am -1.00pm
This week-long technical workshop will create a soundscape from existing audio materials, vintage and new including extracts from opera and ballet music but also other sounds such as water, speech and everyday sounds. Working with a professional sound artist, you will learn about the technical and the creative processes used to produce a unique soundscape.
Cost: £20 for the week (5 days) £10 for students/children
Creating the Visual World (digital)
Open to everyone aged of 12 and above
No unaccompanied under 14s
Mon-Fri 2.30pm – 5.00pm
This week-long technical workshop will create short film pieces edited from existing visual materials, both vintage and new. Led by a professional filmmaker, in this workshop you will learn about the technical and the creative processes involved and create exciting and unique ways to include film as part of the larger art installation.
Cost: £20 for the week (5 days) £10 for students/children
Creating the Visual World
Open to everyone aged 7 and above
No unaccompanied under 14s
Mon – Fri 10.30am – 1.00pm and 2.30pm – 5.00pm
These daily creative workshops will create and source sets, props, costumes and other elements for the installation. Working with professional designers and artists, you’ll learn about working with different materials to produce an art installation.
Cost: £10 per day for adults £5 for children/students
