SoSLUG, perhaps in collaboration with the Chelmer Linux User group, we are good friends you see are considering a workshop aimed at Media artists, Electronic’s students and pretty much any one else that might be interested.

Perhaps you do not know what an Arduino is – Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It’s intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. Please go to

http://arduino.cc

for more information. What does it do well quite a lot really and if you read the companion pages for the url above you might begin to understand how useful it is.

The purpose of this new topic is to find out if there is any interest in running such a workshop, it probably won’t be free as it will most likely run over several days. I am almost certain I can setup a venue without much difficulty, what I don’t know is the number of people that might be interested. Olga Panades a good friend to me is willing to host the course and will let me know in early December what dates she would prefer in the New Year, this so as not to clash with her other activities.

The course will be a hands on course and depending again on numbers you may have to work in groups – perhaps! Meaning you will either be working an Arduino of your own to use or collaboratively with a few others. All of us have different skills and sometimes it can be useful to share a project and ideas with others. We intend to teach the basics with full documentation of hardware and programming skills which I have been assured will be provided. The course will consist of a number of presentations throughout and you will be expected to take notes, concluding with the assembly and adoption of your own project.

please send any questions you may have to derek@soslug.org. I do need to have a good idea of how many are actually interested so please reply to derek@soslug.org if this is something you want to participate in.
