I am a storyteller based in Wickford, Essex. I have been storytelling full time for twelve years and have visited countless schools in Essex and East Anglia as well as performing for adults in theatres, museums and community groups. I have also performed, in Medieval dress at Kenilworth Castle, Pensthorpe Medieval Spectacular, Colchester Oyster Fayre and other such events. I have appeared at the Rochester Dickens Festival and at the Essex Book Festival on at least five occasions. I am currently running a storytelling club for adults based at The Fold Arts Centre, Billericay. It meets on the last Thursday of the month and will occasionally present sessions by some of the best storytellers in the country.

Tales At The Fold
Internationally acclaimed storyteller Shonaleigh Cumbers will be performing “What Women Want” at The Fold, Arts Centre, Billericay on Thursday February 23rd at 7-45pm.
A wise, witty, ironic look at the most important question ever asked, and what happened to some of the many people who have tried to answer it. Shonaleigh draws on five thousand years of eastern traditional wisdom and — personal experience to comment with characteristically incisive grace and vigour on the question everyone’s been asking. She will explain exactly what happened to the totally awesome Precious Pearl of Bahrain, and why. Essential listening for anyone who has ever attempted to communicate verbally with a member of the opposite sex, let alone share the world with the whole three billion of them.

Essex Storytellers are setting up a new storytelling club. It meets on the last Thursday of the month at 7-45pm at The Fold Arts Centre, Billericay. As well as giving local storytellers and people new to the art of storytelling an opportunity to tell and develop their skills, “Tales at The Fold” will be bringing to Billericay some of the best storytellers currently performing in this country.
Club nights will be hosted by Carl Merry comprise two elements. During the first part of the evening there will be a story or two from Carl, or from invited local tellers. The second half will be thrown over to stories from the audience or storytelling workshops if club members ask for them.
To coincide with the beginning of National Storytelling Week, our first meeting will be on January 26th at 7-45pm. Come and listen to some “Winter Tales” and maybe tell one of your own. (£2 fee for club nights) Then on February 23rd we are lucky enough to have a performance from internationally renowned storyteller Shonaleigh Cumbers who will explain “What Women Want”. (Tickets from The Fold 01277 659286 £7)
