It may no longer shock or offend as it once did but it still retains its ability to provide terrific entertainment that serves as both a giddy tribute to Broadway musicals and as a parody thereof. Among an array of side-splitting musical numbers, Springtime for Hitler is the most well-known.

Under the leading Czech conductor Petr Altrichter, Czech National Symphony Orchestra return to Cliffs with a programme of three masterpieces.
In the haunting opening bars of Schubert’sUnfinished Symphony you will know you are in the musical presence of a great genius and this is why this particular work has become so popular with audiences the world over. Equally popular is the deeply romantic 1st Violin Concerto by Max Bruch, performed tonight by the dynamic young British violinist Charlie Siem who has made a great impression in concerts halls through the UK recently.

The concert will end with Dvorak’s Symphony No.8. This masterpiece was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society, so has a very close association with English audiences and the poignant slow movement and grand finale make it one of Dvorak’s finest symphonic works.
