Metal are beginning to put together the programme for this year’s Village Green, the one-day arts led festival which will be taking place on 25 September 2010.
Last year over 20,000 people flocked to the family friendly event, in celebration of a unique and diverse range of creative talents from Southend and beyond. Although the attractions of the acts on the main stage are a big draw, Village Green is first and foremost a community arts event. Last year the Guinness World Record-beating bunting line was on display, as well as the Chandeliers, both of which were created by various groups and individual members of the wider local community.
Stalls, activities, and performances were presented by many Southend-based organisations including CoExist, Southend Young Creatives, Leigh Operatic and Dramatic Society, to name but a few.
Stalls in The Market Place, an area for showcasing, selling or demonstrating your talent, creations, performance, participatory workshops or other works of art, are available. Please download the application form and return it to Metal by Friday 4th June 2010.
It is these areas of activity that go together with the stage acts that make Village Green such a popular and successful event for all ages.
Metal would like to ask for your participation: if you have any ideas about how you could become involved and add to the programme for Village Green 2010, please approach them. Help them to make this another successful Village Green event. chalkwell (at) metalculture.com or T +44 [0] 1702 470 700

Hi, for a year and a half now Belle et la Beat have been putting on monthly live music events, initially at The Ship and now at The Railway Hotel, Southend. Our concept is simple, to provide an afternoon of diverse, eclectic and good quality live music and make it accessible to adults and children. In our experience, gigs are rarely child-friendly, parents are not encouraged to bring their children to gigs. We believe children benefit enormously from an early introduction to different styles of live music and to be able to enjoy it with their parents. Belle et la Beat provides art/craft activities whilst the bands are on and at our next event (6th June),we aim to teach the children a song with some percussion and have them perform it at the end of the afternoon. We would love to be part of Village Green this year in some capacity, please let us know your thoughts, Michelle and Wendy.
Hi Wendy and Michelle,
Thanks for your interest in taking part in Village Green. It sounds great, would you be able to email me your details to nastassja@metalculture.com and I can send you more information, the necessary forms to complete and we can discuss your ideas in more detail?
Best
