Film and Video Umbrella is casting for a person to play a language teacher in a new film by artists Karen Mirza and Brad Butler. No previous acting experience is required and we are interested in hearing from anyone who feels they may have something to contribute to this project. This exciting new project will be a keynote commission for Film and Video Umbrella, which will have its cinema release in 2012 and features a script by renowned Science Fiction author, China Miéville.
The project takes its starting point in different historical moments of political unrest, revolution and rioting, informed particularly by the revolutionary processes that took place in Egypt earlier this year.
One of the strands of the film will attempt to develop a physical and verbal language of the ‘riot’ and we are looking to cast a teacher of this ‘riot language’.
They are interested in working with somebody who possesses one or more of the following skills; a dancer, an Arabic speaker, a person with experience of teaching/using phonics in language learning, and/or someone who knows sign language. The age and race of this character is undefined.
